Term Definition
FAA Category 1 or 2 Part Any part (including assemblies) in an FAA approved design that, if it were to fail, could reasonably be expected to cause an unsafe condition in an aircraft, engine or propeller.
Facsimile (Control of Documents and Records) A microfilm, microfiche, or permanent electronic rendition of an original record or document.
Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis - a risk analysis technique that helps identify defect causes and prioritises improvement work.
Field Service Personnel (Visual Inspection) Personnel conducting product support inspection activities at customer locations.
First Article Inspection (FAI) A complete, independent, and documented physical and functional inspection process to verify that prescribed production methods have produced a fully conforming item as specified by engineering definition, planning, purchase order, engineering specifications, electronic model and / or other applicable documents.
First Production Run The first group of one or more parts that are the result of a planned process designed to be used for future production of these same parts. Prototype parts, or parts built using methods different from that intended for the normal production process, shall not be considered as part of the first production run.
Fitness for Purpose Compliance of the product with any relevant contractual, customer or regulatory requirement (e.g. a concession which may limit the use of a product to development or experimental applications only).
Foreseeable Causes The realistic ways in which an incident could arise and the acts, conditions or circumstances which allow or promote - also known as "threats"
Framework Order A Rolls-Royce Purchase Order where there is no schedule but a defined scope of work and value against which requirements can be called off.
