Term Definition
Halon An inert gas often used in fire fighting systems a significant ozone depleter.
Hazard For Civil and Military multi-engine aerospace applications, an aircraft is considered to be hazarded if it's ability to continue safe flight is impaired either by damage to the structure or controls, or by injury to the crew.

For single engine applications, an aircraft is considered to be hazarded if it's ability to execute a controlled descent, or the ability of the occupants to abandon the aircraft safely is impaired by either damage to the structure or controls, or by injury to the crew, or by a thrust deviation leading to loss of platform stability.

Hazardous Event (HSE) An incident, which leads to, or has the potential for harm.
Hazard Identification (HSE) The systematic process of developing an understanding of hazards present at a location or during an activity / series of activities.
Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Policy A public statement of the intentions and principles of action by the company / supplier regarding its health, safety and environmental effects, giving rise to its strategic and detailed objectives.
Health Screening In the occupational context is a medical examination to assess an individual’s fitness for the job; whilst in the voluntary context its purpose is to enhance employee health.
Health Surveillance The use of medical techniques ranging from as simple as setting up a specific health record, to as complex as lung function testing or blood sampling to monitor either exposure or the effects of exposure to hazardous substances or physical hazards; the objective being to prevent adverse effects on employees.
Hold Point A point in a production schedule associated with a Rolls-Royce surveillance activity beyond which work must not proceed without the written approval of Rolls-Royce Marine (Submarines).
