Term Definition
Inaccessible Characteristic A characteristic that cannot be physically accessed at any time after it is generated without destroying the part; inaccessible dimensions may include internal dimensions of castings, internal dimensions of a welded or brazed assembly which are called out for the assembly. Inaccessible non-dimensional characteristics include material strength, certain metallurgical features and manufacturing processes, including non-destructive testing. Measurement of the characteristic will be by destructive means unless a suitable non-destructive technique exists. Evidence of process capability may also be used.
Initial FAIR A complete First Article Inspection for the part / product.
Inspect A conformity evaluation by observation, judgment and appropriate measurement, testing and gauging e.g. Examination of an object to determine whether it conforms to standards and / or applicable engineering specifications etc.
Inspection (HS&E) Is the observation either freely or against specific checklists of hazards, working practices and use of safety equipment etc. within the workplace.
Integrator Integrators are suppliers who have the additional responsibility e.g. to deliver a build package, or elements of a build package which consists of production parts or assemblies.
Investments & Services (Rolls-Royce) The purchasing groups within Rolls-Royce (known as "Indirect" within North America) who are responsible for the acquisition and supply of Corporate Services ; Engineering, Capital & Services ; Facilities Management ; Information Technology ; Logistics Services and Manufacturing Systems.
Investigation A determination of the immediate and underlying causes of an incident (e.g. HS&E).
Investigation Request A document summarising a problem or an improvement opportunity.
