Term Definition
Manufacturer The supplier who is responsible for the production of the finished component (including Forgings & Flash Welded Rings).
Manufacturing Definition (Classified Parts) The sequence of activities for manufacturing a component together with all referenced documentation and specifications. Manufacturing includes assembly and inspection, salvage and repair operations - as applicable.

Manufacturing Responsibility The enterprise responsible for planning and managing the supply chain in order to manufacture components that comply with the specific requirements of the engineering definition and associated specifications; whilst meeting the scheduled requirements for product delivery, on time and at minimum cost.
Manufacturing Responsible Party Company The company within the IAE collaboration that is manufacturing or purchasing a part.
Manufacturing Transfer Parts Parts which are reallocated by a DRPC to an MRPC to adjust work share proportions in accordance with the IAE collaboration agreement (with / between partner companies).
Material Review Board (MRB) MRB is responsible for the disposition of non-conforming material submitted on the Concession Application.
Material Specification Rolls-Royce (MSRR) Refers to materials which will fly, or become part of a production (i.e. flight standard) engine.
Method This term embraces the entire system of manufacture, including material manufacture, used to produce the part or feature in question. Typical examples of operations that require method change control may be found in JES 125.
MCR (Manufacturing Change Request) The formal document by which Rolls-Royce agrees changes to Critical and Sensitive parts. For Rolls-Royce Corporation this requirement will be covered by the Request for Engineering Source Approval (RESA) document.
Measurement Equipment Any item of equipment capable of making a measurement (e.g. gauge, meter, transducer, co-ordinate measuring machine etc.)
Methane A flammable gas extracted from reservoirs in the ground - "Natural Gas" ; also produces as a by-product of waste degradation in landfill sites and from farming activities - a significant Greenhouse Gas.
Method (Classified Parts) The entire system of manufacture (including material manufacture) used to produce the finished part. Certain methods (early in the manufacturing sequence) may not need control as they cannot affect the performance of a finished component; for additional detail refer to JES 125.
Mini-Plan A "mini-plan", is a partial manufacturing plan to cover only some changed features and not the complete manufacturing plan.
Modeller The person responsible for capturing the technical design solution in the form of component definition(s).
Mod Bulletin The formal document raised to obtain either Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) OR European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) certification (or both) approval for a modification.
Montreal Protocol Countries or trading groups that are signatories to the Montreal Protocol have agreed to phase out the manufacture of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS's), leading to / resulting in a total ban in their production (i.e. CFC's, Halons, Trichloroethane, Carbon Tetrachloride, Methyl Bromide, HCFC's).
MSRR approved stockist A supplier that stocks / sells an MSRR specified material obtained from a Rolls-Royce approved manufacturer and holds a letter of approval / certificate from Rolls-Royce.
Multiple Characteristics Identical characteristics that occur at more than one location (e.g. "4-places") but are established by a single set of definition requirements; examples include bolt hole circles, dovetail slots, corner radii, cooling holes etc.
