| Ozone Depleting Substances (Montreal Protocol refers) |
The action of ODS's (as the name implies) is to deplete the ozone layer from the stratosphere thereby reducing the shielding effect that keeps the sun's harmful ultra-violet radiation from reaching the earth's surface.
- The loss of the protective ozone layer increases the incidence of problems such as skin cancers / eye cataracts and can cause damage to existing ecosystems (e.g. land and marine based habitats).
