Raw
Materials |
All materials from which engine (i.e. aerospace applications)
products are manufactured. This included materials used in the manufacture
of proprietary products - typical examples include accessories, catalogue
items, nacelles etc. |
Raw
Material Castings / Forgings |
Castings / forgings that subsequently have material removed
to produce a finished component. |
Read
Across FAIR |
An FAI carried out on selected specific features, rather
than on all features of a component. Only to be undertaken where a part
number change has occurred due to a minor modification of an existing
part (e.g. an additional hole in a complex fabrication, change of surface
coating); the read across FAI checks all features affected by the change. |
Record
(Control of Documents and Records) |
A retained document that is used to preserve information
or evidence. |
Rectification |
Use of a sequence of operations that are not repeat router
operations in an attempt to make non-conforming product conform completely
to the drawing definition, specification or customer requirement. (Rolls-Royce
U.K.) |
Regional
Regulatory Authority |
The Rolls-Royce individual responsible for the control
of the Approved Supplier Database in each region. |
Release
Note |
A formal serialised document (frequently called a Certificate
of Conformity) accompanying each delivery of a product which clearly indicates
the release status of such items; together with their compliance to the
relevant purchase order; associated technical specifications and / or
regulatory requirements - as applicable. |
Releasable
Consumables |
All consumable material which forms part of, or is used
directly in the manufacture and / or assembly of Rolls-Royce deliverable
products (e.g. Paints, Spray Powders, Welding Filler Wires, NDT materials,
Abrasive Grits, Gases etc.). |
Relevant
Controlling Rolls-Royce Technical Authority |
The Rolls-Royce function (e g. Product Technical Controller
/ Supplier Quality Engineer, Laboratory, Engineering etc.) responsible
for the technical control of the component. |
Repair
|
Use of a sequence of operations to reduce, but not necessarily
completely eliminate product non-conformance. The purpose of a repair
being to return non-conforming product to an acceptable condition which
may not completely conform to the original drawing definition, specification
or contract requirement; a repair is normally associated with service
run material. |
Repair
Instruction |
Rolls-Royce, approved repair standard, manual, scheme,
drawing or published supporting instruction / specification - as instructed
by the purchase order or commercial agreement. |
Repair
Scheme |
A Repair Scheme gives all information necessary to accomplish
the repair; this will include essential illustrations, instructions, consumables
and where required, special tooling information and repair parts. It may
also specify sources approved by Rolls-Royce to perform the repair. |
Request
for Engineering Source Approval (RESA) |
This is the standard Change request (CR) form to be used
in Rolls-Royce Corporation with classified parts. It indicates the details
of the proposed change to source or method of manufacture; Control Authority
decisions; and the Engineering decision with any substantiation test requirements. |
Requirements
Document (Classified Parts) |
A document that defines the specification of the product
to be delivered together with the management controls of the design process;
product specification will include reliability, integrity and life requirements
together with the standards and any Rolls-Royce policies that shall be
adhered to when defining the product. Design includes cost, geometric
& functional characteristics and how to make, operate maintain / support
the product in service and dispose of it. Management controls include
any proposed Rolls-Royce oversight / authorisations for quality assurance
purposes. |
Re-sourcing |
The transfer of work (e.g. manufacture) from one source
to another. |
Retainer
(Control of Documents and Records) |
A person given custody of records. |
Retention
Period (Control of Documents and Records) |
The time period that a record(s) must be kept for retrieval
in a legible condition. |
Rework |
Use of a sequence of approved operations in an attempt
to return non-conforming product (e.g. where there is a "metal on"
condition, or weld defect) to a state that conforms completely to the
drawing definition, specification or customer requirement - this may entail
the use of repeated standard router operations. |
Risk |
A term, which combines the probability that a specified undesired event will occur, and the severity of the consequences of such an event. |
Risk Assessment (or evaluation) |
The process of analysing and evaluating hazards; it involves both casual and consequence analysis requiring determination of probability and risk. |
Risk Assessment Process |
The structured methodology involving hazard identification, assessment, control (i.e. treatment), communication and review. |
Rolls-Royce
approved material / product |
A material / product satisfying the material specification
and for which the supplier holds a letter / certificate of approval from
Rolls-Royce. |
Rolls-Royce
Approved Repair Station |
A repair station formally approved by Rolls-Royce to work
in accordance and / or incorporate specific Rolls-Royce Repair Schemes,
Modifications or Service Bulletins - as appropriate. |
Rolls-Royce
approved supplier |
A supplier holding a formal letter / certificate of approval
issued by Rolls-Royce (e.g. Rolls-Royce 9000:SABRe). |
Rolls-Royce
customer owned tooling |
Tooling or test equipment funded by a Rolls-Royce customer
and administered by Rolls-Royce on their behalf. |
Router |
A document that lists the sequence of operations during
the manufacturing cycle (may also be referred to as a Batch Card). |
