Read Across FAIR An FAI carried out on selected specific features, rather than on all features of a component. Only to be undertaken where a part number change has occurred due to a minor modification of an existing part (e.g. an additional hole in a complex fabrication, change of surface coating); the read across FAI checks all features affected by the change.

Relevant Controlling Rolls-Royce Technical Authority The Rolls-Royce function (e g. Product Technical Controller / Supplier Quality Engineer, Laboratory, Engineering etc.) responsible for the technical control of the component.
Repair Use of a sequence of operations to reduce, but not necessarily completely eliminate product non-conformance. The purpose of a repair being to return non-conforming product to an acceptable condition which may not completely conform to the original drawing definition, specification or contract requirement; a repair is normally associated with service run material.
Repair Instruction Rolls-Royce, approved repair standard, manual, scheme, drawing or published supporting instruction / specification - as instructed by the purchase order or commercial agreement.
Repair Scheme A Repair Scheme gives all information necessary to accomplish the repair; this will include essential illustrations, instructions, consumables and where required, special tooling information and repair parts. It may also specify sources approved by Rolls-Royce to perform the repair.

Design includes cost, geometric & functional characteristics and how to make, operate maintain / support the product in service and dispose of it. Management controls include any proposed Rolls-Royce oversight / authorisations for quality assurance purposes.
